Classes Include:
Teacher, Luke Martin, starts each class with some brief warm
ups to stretch and limber up your arms and legs. Class is then
organized into “Leads” and “Follows” (the dancers who lead and those who will
follow). Each group is taught its respective foot work. This is
done as Luke demonstrates the techniques with a partner. Next, the
leads and follows pair up, and practice the steps as a couple. The
movements are then demonstrated, and couples mirror the lead couple’s
steps ( performed by teacher and partner). Rotation of partners is done liberally.
Once you have mastered the basic steps, you may put your own steps together to creatively perform your own variation of the dance.
Pairs of dances are periodically reintroduced, allowing three to four weeks
for students to master each dance. As new dances are added to the
repertoire, familiar dances are reviewed, new steps are introduced, and
familiar dances are refined. The whole idea of the class is to provide you
with the encouragement, nurturing, and expert instruction that allows
you to develop your dancing skills as you enjoy learning to dance,
practicing new steps, and finding creative ways to make dancing even
more enjoyable.
